Description

This Fellow will create a strategy and systems for building relationships among area employers and others to establish sustainable pathways for recruiting College Promise mentors for rising high school freshmen. Mentors meet weekly during the school year with College Promise Scholars, who receive significant scholarships upon high school graduation and successful completion of the program. The Fellow will help to identify ongoing sources of mentors, through engaging with community, business and higher education organizations such as SOCHE, Learn to Earn Dayton, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, and alumni chapters of Black sorority and fraternities.

In addition, the Fellow will address the goals of Del Mar Encore Fellows (DMEF) Initiative by participating in presentations and events with other Del Mar Fellows aimed at changing attitudes and policy around aging, and encouraging high-impact volunteer, employment, and community engagement opportunities for older adults. The scope of work will likely include:

  • Develop a plan for outreach to area businesses and community organizations, as sources of mentors and for long-term engagement with College Promise
  • Develop a plan to increase visibility for the College Promise Mentors program
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with sources of mentors, including businesses and community organizations
  • Deepen and expand existing partnerships, developing a framework for the relationships going forward
  • Supporting the engagement of older adults and others as mentors with the host organization
  • Meeting regularly with Del Mar Encore Fellows to share information and supporting the work of the DMEF initiative throughout the community
  • Participating with other Del Mar Encore Fellows in public presentations focused on advancing the goals of the DMEF initiative and changing the conversation around aging in our community
