Description

The City of Moraine is hiring a full-time Police Records Clerk. The position serves as the records custodian for the Moraine Police Division and performs clerical and administrative support related to public records and confidential police records.

The Police Records Clerk will assist the public, answer questions, and respond to inquiries. Gather, maintain, produce and submit proper reports related to police information and statistics. Works closely with various courts and other law enforcement agencies. Coordinates criminal background checks, public records , expungements and other related items. Other duties and responsibilities as required or directed by the Chief of Police. Must be of good moral character, with no disqualifying criminal history.

Skill Sets / Certifications / Degrees Required

  • High school or GED (Additional course work/training in related areas preferred)
  • Two years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience  (Work experience in government, law enforcement, court or legal setting preferred)
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and division rules and regulations
  • Ability to carry out orders with precision and speed
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately
  • Ability to learn and apply public safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to learn criminal justice specific hardware, software and databases
  • Experience in the operation of phones, computers, administrative software packages such as Microsoft Office, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, bookkeeping, and cash handling
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public and coworkers
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to learn City’s geography
  • Maintain good physical condition in order to work mainly indoors.   The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit. To use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and operate equipment or controls.  They may also have to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee will occasionally lift medium weight items, 50 pounds or less, such as equipment or other material
  • Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Corrective lenses may be worn to aid in specific vision requirements
  • Requires normal hearing abilities
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver's
