Del Mar Encore Fellow – Montgomery County 2Gen Collaborative in partnership with the University of Dayton’s Fitz Center for Leadership in Community

Position Purpose:

In Montgomery County, school districts such as Dayton Public Schools, Trotwood-Madison, Jefferson Township, and Harrison Township face significant hurdles in fostering educational success for students and economic mobility for their caregivers. The Montgomery County Two-Generation Collaborative is a multi-partner effort designed to tackle these systemic challenges head-on.

Chaired by the University of Dayton’s Fitz Center for Leadership in Community with Learn to Earn Dayton providing vital backbone support, the collaborative is committed to empowering children and families in Montgomery County. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty in Montgomery County and build a collaborative, community-driven system that leverages a two-generation approach, focusing on the entire family. This empowers families and drives lasting change in their economic, educational, and social well-being. By unifying and strengthening the providers in Montgomery County, we maximize resources and community-driven investments to improve outcomes for children and families.

The Del Mar Encore Fellow will provide leadership in advancing the Montgomery County Two-Generation Collaborative’s strategic initiatives. The Encore Fellow will work closely with executive leadership at the UD Fitz Center for Leadership in Community, Learn to Earn Dayton and the 2-Gen Steering Committee members on the Collaborative’s first three strategic goals

which include implementing sustainable collaborative practices, developing and scaling data-informed services, and intentionally measuring and communicating impact.

In addition, the Fellow will address the goals of Del Mar Encore Fellows (DMEF) Initiative by participating in presentations and events with other Del Mar Fellows aimed at changing attitudes and policy around aging, and encouraging high-impact volunteer, employment, and community engagement opportunities for older adults.

Key Responsibility: Advance the Montgomery County 2-Generation Collaborative 

Specific Duties:

  • Provide strategic leadership: The Encore Fellow will be instrumental in moving forward the Collaborative's foundational strategic objectives
  • Contribute to high-level decision making in integrated leadership model by serving as a member of both the Fitz Center leadership team and the Montgomery County 2-Generation Collaborative Steering Committee
  • Develop key collaborations within the community: The Encore Fellow will actively connect with and contribute to the broader network of the Montgomery County 2-Generation Collaborative
  • Partner with Learn to Earn Dayton: Direct collaboration with Learn to Earn Dayton, the Collaborative's backbone organization, will ensure alignment and operational effectiveness

Key Responsibility: Lead the Del Mar Encore Fellows Initiative for Assigned Host/TDF Initiative Organization

Specific Duties:

  • Develop work plan for DMEF initiative
  • Achieve all DMEF Initiative deliverables as required
  • Achieve financial objectives by managing costs within budget
  • Offer information and opinions on ways to achieve the DMEF Initiative mission and to achieve overall program objectives
  • Develop and build support for a common set of outcomes among stakeholders, funders, and program participants

Key Responsibility: Support an Internal and External Communication Plan

Specific Duties:

  • Coordinate internal communications to keep the appropriate TDF and the Host Organization staff informed of progress toward goals
  • Participate in regular TDF Fellow meetings for information sharing and to ensure DMEF Initiative goals remain on target
  • Participate in community meetings and other presentations to raise the profile and advance the goals of the DMEF Initiative

Key Responsibility: Maintain and Support Relationships with Community

Specific Duties:

  • Establish relationships and work hand-in-hand with community stakeholders, government, business representatives, not-for-profit organizations and older adults in creating opportunities to improve Miami Valley communities
  • Gain trust and confidence among the various partners

Requirements

Four-year college degree and a minimum of five years of job-related experience at the professional, management, or executive level. Demonstrated success in strategic planning, project management and implementation. Excellent personal and group communication skills. Comfortable working with a diverse population. Candidates may possess any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The preferred qualified candidate is a retired professional older adult with a respected career and community record. This position also requires access to reliable transportation.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with TDF and Host Organization staff, Fellows, and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • High level of analytical, organizational and project management skills
  • Experience in education, civic engagement or social services helpful, but not required
  • Ability to lead and partner with people from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences
  • Understands the critical role of data in decision-making
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment and with community partners
  • Highly collaborative and able to move fluidly between being a leader and a team member
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work assignments to meet timelines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work without close supervision; highly motivated and self-directed to complete program goals and responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, as position requires
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • As with all nonprofit work, patience and a sense of humor are valuable assets

Desirable, but not required

  • Experience building community relationships and networking with members of the Montgomery County 2-Generation Collaborative and school district partners
  • Background in education

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently, lead cross-sector partnerships, and navigate sophisticated stakeholder environments. Experience launching or scaling major community initiatives, especially those tied to education or civic infrastructure, is highly valued. This position also requires access to reliable transportation.
